Al-Ahazab
“And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and for the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper."”
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, good conduct, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.”
“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives.”
“Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but righteousness is in one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveller, those who ask, and for freeing slaves.”
“And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying, "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude."”
“Did He not find you an orphan and give you refuge? And He found you lost and guided you, and He found you poor and made you self-sufficient.”
“And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right.”
“Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption in the land — it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one — it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.”
“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.”
“And when the girl who was buried alive is asked for what sin she was killed.”
“So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveller. That is best for those who desire the countenance of Allah, and it is they who will be the successful.”
“And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity.”
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them so much as "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.”
“And We made from them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and were certain of Our signs.”
“And seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive.”
“And do not turn your cheek in scorn toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.”
“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.”
“And whoever fears Allah — He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.”
“The believer is not one who eats his fill while his neighbour goes hungry.”
“Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy.”
“Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and free the captive.”
“The merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on earth and the One in the heavens will be merciful to you.”
“I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise — and he raised his forefinger and middle finger together.”
“The best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill treated.”
“Whoever relieves a believer's distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.”
“Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.”
“Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or is oppressed. They said: O Messenger of Allah, we help the oppressed — but how do we help an oppressor? He said: By preventing him from oppression.”
“Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.”
“A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not oppress him, nor does he abandon him.”
“The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body: when any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.”
“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”
“The strong is not the one who overcomes people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.”
“He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while the neighbour to his side goes hungry.”
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”
“The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.”
“Whoever removes a worldly hardship from a believer, Allah will remove one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection from him.”
“Verily, Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection: Where are those who love one another for My glory? Today I will shade them in My shade on a day when there is no shade but Mine.”
“The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.”
“Speak, even if your voice shakes — for silence is the ally of the oppressor.”
“A nation that forgets its orphans has already forgotten its soul.”
“Justice is the soul of peace — and peace cannot be built on buried truth.”
“Empathy is not weakness. It is the courage to carry what others refuse to see.”
“What you permit, you promote. What you ignore, you authorise.”
“They counted the dead until the dead became numbers. We count them until they become names again.”
“The sea remembers what the headlines forget.”
“A martyr is not a statistic. A martyr is a face, a town, a homeland, and a word that refuses to die.”
“Apathy is not neutrality. It is a choice — and choices have authors.”
“The Ummah is not a map. It is a body — and when one limb bleeds, the whole body must wake.”
“To remember is an act of resistance. To forget is a second death.”
“Hunger is not a famine of food alone. It is a famine of conscience in those who have plenty.”
“We do not build indices to frighten you. We build them so you cannot say you did not know.”
“Every orphan is a question the world keeps refusing to answer.”
“The conscience that sleeps through injustice will wake to regret.”
“Carry their names. Carry their towns. Carry their last words. That is how the living honour the dead.”
“Truth does not need permission to exist. It needs witnesses.”
“A heart that hardens to one child's hunger has already hardened to God.”
“The flotilla did not sail for headlines. It sailed because silence had become unbearable.”
“We measure suffering not to despair — but so mercy knows where to go.”
“Your comfort is not proof that the world is at peace.”
“Witnessing is worship when witnessing costs you something.”
“The scroll does not unfurl for the curious alone. It unfurls for the willing.”
“They called it aid. They called it security. The orphan still waits at the border of your attention.”
“Remembrance is not nostalgia. It is the refusal to let the powerful write the last word.”
“And what is wrong with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and for the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper."”

Souls of the Sea
A Photo Memorial to the 2026 Flotilla Martyrs
A photo book in preparation — each page a face, a name, a town, a homeland, and the words they left behind. I am gathering these profiles with care, verifying every detail, and seeking the consent of those who loved them. This is not journalism. This is remembrance made permanent.
